NH State Lottery NHLottery

The NH State Lottery has the honor of being the very first of the State Lotteries to be created in the United States of America.

The New Hampshire Lottery was formed back in 1964 after a bill was passed following a ballot which saw a huge 84% majority of voters in the State of New Hampshire say “Yes” to the authorization of their own State Lottery. It was known as the New Hampshire Sweepstakes.

The New Hampshire State Lottery is operated by the government of New Hampshire who oversee the running and organization of all NH Lottery games. Some of these are Tri State Lottery games run along with 2 other New England States – Maine and Vermont.

Right from when the very first NH Lotto ticket was sold back on March 12th 1964 – the aim of the NH Lottery has been to benefit the people of New Hampshire by raising money for education at the same time as providing exciting lottery games that offer affordable entertainment and value to NHLottery players.

This is still the case today with NH State Lottery funds being designated by the State Constitution of New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Lottery Commission is based in Concord, NH.

NH Lottery Overview

The NH State Lottery sells lottery tickets from its network of 1,200 authorized NH Lottery retailers throughout the state and has its Headquarters at 14 Integra Drive, Concord, NH 03301.

The NH Lottery also takes part in 2 of the biggest lottery games in the world – Multi-State USA Lottery games Mega Millions and Powerball – plus the slightly smaller but highly popular Multi State Lottery games of Hot Lotto and the Tri State Megabucks PLUS – all of which we will be looking into in much greater depth here.

We will be looking at the various NH Lotto games below – how these games work and who can play them – as well as delving into some history of the New Hampshire State Lottery in detail.

NH Lottery Games

There are numerous lottery games that are offered by the New Hampshire State Lottery including two of the largest world lotteries – the Mega Millions and Powerball plus the other Multi-State US Lotteries – the Hot Lotto and the Tri State Megabucks PLUS.

We will first of all take a look at these Multi-State USA Lottery games – that the NH Lottery offers in conjunction with the MUSL Multi State Lottery Association, the Mega Millions Consortium and the Tri-State Lottery Consortium – and later move on to the other NHLottery games that are available to players.

The games currently offered by the NH Lottery that it is possible for players anywhere in the world to buy lottery tickets online for are the two huge US Lotteries – the Mega Millions and the Powerball – plus the Hot Lotto and Tri-State Megabucks PLUS.

Other games offered by the NH State Lottery that you can play in-state are noted further down the page – if any of these NH Lotto games also become available to a wider audience at some point in the future – we will be writing about it here.

NH Powerball Powerball NH

Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run & syndicated across the USA by the MUSL – Multi State Lottery Association – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world having produced a record jackpot of an incredible US$ 1.58 BILLION. This massive sum is the biggest lottery jackpot ever won to date in the entire history of world lottery games.

The very first Powerball draw took place on April 22nd 1992 with 16 USA Lottery companies – who were all members of the MUSL – taking part after the game changed its format and name from Lotto America which had first started on February 13th 1988.

NH Powerball Overview

The New Hampshire Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the NH Powerball – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.

The NH Powerball was first sold on November 5th 1995 when the NH Lottery became the 22nd member to join the MUSL – Multi State Lottery Association – who run & syndicate the game right across the United States of America.

NH Powerball How it Works

The New Hampshire Powerball Lottery works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.

Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some massive jackpot figures.

6 numbers are drawn in total for the Powerball NH game from 2 separate drawing machines – first of all 5 numbers from 69 white balls are drawn followed by 1 number (the POWERball) from 26 red balls.

Draws for the New Hampshire Powerball take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.59pm EST.

In addition to the 6 main Powerball numbers drawn – a further number is drawn – using a Random Number Generator…the Powerball POWERPLAY number…

POWERPLAY…

This separate Powerball POWERPLAY number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4, 5 and occasionally number 10 – and is there to give players of the NH Powerball a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the NH Powerball jackpot itself.

With Powerball POWER PLAY – you will multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount you can walk away with.

During special promotions – the Powerball POWER PLAY multiplier will be 10x – allowing New Hampshire Lottery players to increase their NH Powerball winnings by an incredible 10 times!

So, for just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your Powerball New Hampshire winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Power Ball POWER PLAY option when you are playing.

NH Mega Millions Mega Millions NH

Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a massive world record jackpot of an incredible US$ 656 MILLION on March 30th 2012. This amazing jackpot was shared equally between 3 Mega Millions winning tickets from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland and ranks as the world's 2nd biggest ever lottery win.

The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.

The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had started on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lotteries joined and many more were to follow.

NH Mega Millions Overview

The NH Lottery is 1 of 46 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the huge and highly popular Mega Millions game – in this case known as the NH Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.

Lottery tickets for the New Hampshire Mega Millions were first sold back on January 31st 2010 after the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) who run the Powerball game – of which the NHLottery was already a member – had entered into a unique cross-selling agreement with the Mega Millions consortium – allowing the cross-sales of Mega Millions tickets in Powerball States and Powerball tickets in Mega Millions States.

NH Mega Millions How it Works

The New Hampshire Mega Millions works in exactly the same way as the Mega Millions game works in all the other 45 States and Districts across the USA that offer the game.

Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures that can be won on the NH Mega Millions.

6 numbers are drawn in total for the NH Mega Millions – from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 70 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the MEGAball) from 25 gold balls.

Draws for the New Hampshire Mega Millions take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11.00pm EST.

In addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn – a further number is drawn – using a Random Number Generator…the MEGAPLIER number…

MEGAPLIER…

This separate MEGAPLIER multiplier number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 – and is there to give players of the New Hampshire Mega Millions a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the Mega Millions jackpot itself.

With Mega Millions MEGAPLIER – you multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount you can walk away with.

If you match the 5 main Mega Millions numbers playing with the MEGAPLIER add-on – and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier prize of US$ 1 MILLION would be multiplied by x5 and you could win US$ 5 MILLION.

A great improvement to the MEGAPLIER facility occurred on October 19th 2013.

This can make your Mega Millions win even bigger when you play Mega Millions using the MEGAPLIER prize multiplier option.

The 2nd Mega Millions prize has automatically been quadrupled to US$ 1 MILLION and a more powerful MEGAPLIER multiplier of x5 has been brought in.

This means that if you match all 5 of the main Mega Millions numbers and play using the MEGAPLIER option – you will now win US$ 5 MILLION if a MEGAPLIER of x5 has been drawn.

So, for just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your NH Mega Millions winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Mega Millions MEGAPLIER option when playing.
