Lottery Netherlands Netherlands Lottery

Nederlandse Loterij

The history of Netherlands Lotto games date right back to April 4th 1726 when Generaliteitsloterij – the Generality Lottery – was first formed to raise funds for the national treasury.

In 1848 the name of the Generaliteitsloterij was ammended to the Nederlandse Staatsloterij – the Dutch State Lottery – and still remains today, the oldest Netherlands Lottery company to exist.

A 2nd Netherlands gaming company was formed after the Royal Dutch Football Association had requested permission from the government to organise Toto games with the aim of raising money for its football clubs. Therefore on February 24th 1957 Nationale Toto National Toto was launched by the Dutch government.

The Toto was originally run by KNVB but on November 1st 1961 a new Netherlands Lottery law was passed with a view to adding Netherlands Lotto games in the future and the new company Stichting de Nationale Sporttotalisator was duly formed.

In 1974 the game that we know todaythe Nederlandse Loterij or Netherlands Lotto was introduced and quickly became the primary offering in the Lottery Netherlands portfolio of games.

In 1992 the Nederlandse Staatsloterij ceased to be owned by the Dutch government and was then taken over by the independent company called Stichting Exploitatie Nederlandse Staatsloterij.

Stichting de Nationale Sporttotalisator – the Netherlands Lotto company – launched the Lucky 10 game in 1993 & the next year the Krasloten – scratch cards – were then introduced in 1994.

In the year 2000 the Lucky 10 game was renamed Lucky Day & is still as popular among NL Lotto players as when it was launched.

On March 17th 2012 the Netherlands became one of the founding member countries to launch the multi national EuroJackpot game along with Slovenia, Estonia, Italy, Germany, Denmark & Finland.

On April 1st 2016 the 2 principal Netherlands Lottery companies
merged together – & so Stichting de Nationale Sporttotalisator plus the Nederlandse Staatstoterij joined as one & the new Lottery NL company now continues under the name Nederlandse Loterij

The Loterij Nederlandse portfolio is made up of numerous games some instant, some daily, others weekly, & one even monthly.

Most of the games in the Lottery Netherlands range can only be played within the Netherlands itself – that is except for the Euro Jackpot. The Netherlands EuroJackpot or EuroJackpot NLcan be played from anywhere across the world through authorised and online lottery ticket sales organisations such as TheLotter.

We will be looking in great depth at the most significant of these Netherlands Lottery games including the main Netherlands Lotto plus the Nederlandse Staatsloterij – the Dutch National Lottery.

We shall also explore one of the newer NL Lottery games – the EuroJackpot – of which the Netherlands was one of the original participating countries & explain how today you can now quickly & easily buy lottery tickets online for this Pan European lottery.

EuroJackpot – Netherlands Lottery – Nederlandse Loterij

Eurojackpot.nl

The EuroJackpot is a multi-national lottery played across Europe that was launched by 7 countries on March 17th 2012 as a rival to its already long serving cousin the EuroMillions.

The aim was to provide an alternative to EuroMillions by offering another pan-european lottery game across several nations that would produce huge jackpots for players to try their luck for.

To that end, the Netherlands joined forces with Finland, Denmark, Italy, Germany & Slovenia, Estonia in launching the EuroJackpot.

Spain became a Eurojackpot member in June 2012 shortly after its launch & on February 1st 2013 Croatia, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden & Norway also joined as EuroJackpot members.

October 10th 2014 saw the Czech Republic join EuroJackpot and then Slovakia & Hungary became members on October 9th 2015.

Poland was the latest country to become a EuroJackpot member in September 2017 bringing the total membership up to its current level of 18 countries across Europe offering its players the game.

EuroJackpot now has an even larger range of audience than the EuroMillions does due to the amount of countries that participate.

EuroJackpot uses a dual matrix of 5/50 + 2/10 meaning that you will first need to select your 5 main numbers from 1 to 50 and then choose 2 separate Euro Numbers from 1 to 10 when playing.

You will win the EuroJackpot top prize if you successfully match all 5 of the primary EuroJackpot numbers plus the 2 Euro Numbers.

The EuroJackpot has a top prize that starts off at € 10 MILLION and can rise as high as the jackpot cap in place of € 90 MILLION.

This massive € 90 MILLION maximum top prize has been won in various nations including Finland, Germany & the Czech Republic.

The biggest prize won on the EuroJackpot NL so far has been a cool € 4,803,217.10 won on December 28th 2018 as part of the overall € 9,606,434.20 jackpot also won by a German player.

Another EuroJackpot Netherlands top prize was won when a jackpot of € 18 MILLION was split 5 ways on January 6th 2017. The Netherlands lucky lottery player received € 3.6 MILLION.

You have 12 separate ways to win on the EuroJackpot and the odds of you winning the top prize jackpot are 1 in 95,344,200.

The draw for the EuroJackpot is made in Helsinki, Finland and occurs once every week on a Friday at 8.00pm Netherlands time.

The NL Lotto uses a matrix of 6/45. Firstly 6 NL Lotto numbers are drawn followed by 1 spare number (reservegetal). The spare number is used to determine prize winners on levels 2, 4, 6 & 8.

When playing you need to choose 6 numbers from a number range of 1 to 45. If you correctly match all 6 of the main NL Lotto numbers you will be the winner of a Netherlands Lotto jackpot.

The Lotto NL jackpot begins at € 2.5 MILLION and will rollover each time it is not won € 200,000 will be added to the top prize pot until a winner is found & there is no limit to how high it can grow.

The biggest NL Lotto jackpot prize ever won so far occurred when 22 players shared a prize of € 36 MILLION on October 16th 2010.

You can also add the Lotto XL option when playing the Lotto NL which gives you the chance to win extra prizes up to € 1 MILLION.

StaatsLoterij – Netherlands Lottery – Nederlandse Loterij

Staatsloterij

The other principal game in the Netherlands Lottery range is the StaatsLoterij – or the Nederlandse Staatsloterij. This is the Dutch National Lottery and is not a standard jackpot draw type lotto but is more like a lottery raffle.

The Nederlandse Staatsloterij has been operated in some form  since 1848 so has a long presence in Netherlands Lottery history.

As the Staatsloterij NL is a raffle style, sweepstake lottery you do not need to choose your own lottery numbers. All Staats Loterij tickets are pre-printed & each are allocated an individial 7 digit serial number which is comprised of 2 letters & then 5 numbers.

You win the Staatsloterij jackpot if the 7 digit number printed on your ticket matches all 7 digits of the Staatsloterij number drawn.

The Staatsloterij jackpot starts off at a minimum of € 7.5 MILLION & can rollover, increasing in size up to € 25 MILLION maximum.

7 coloured balls – 6 blue & 1 orange are drawn to determine whether or not the jackpot will be increased for the following draw. If a blue ball is drawn, the Staatsloterij jackpot will not be won & will be even bigger for the next draw. If the orange ball is drawn, the jackpot must be won from tickets printed for the current draw.

In addition to the jackpot, there are thousands of other prizes to be won on the Staatsloterij for matching various combinations of the 7 digits that are drawn & printed on your Staats Loterij ticket.

The Dutch National Lottery – Nederlandse Staatsloterij – is drawn 16 times every year. The monthly draw takes place on the 10th of every month plus there are 4 special draws that are conducted.

The special Staats Loterij draws are the KoningsdagtrekkingKings Day Draw – which takes place each year on April 27th & the OudejaarstrekkingNew Years Eve Draw – on December 31st. There is no jackpot offered for these 2 special Staatsloterij draws. Also there are the 2 Droomsalaristrekkingen – the Dream Salary Draws – which are conducted on July 1st & October 1st each year.

The biggest Staatsloterij jackpot won so far has been the amazing sum of € 38.4 MILLION in May 2013 which now still ranks as the biggest overall jackpot win so far in Netherlands Lottery history.

Other Games – Netherlands Lottery – Nederlandse Loterij

Nederlandse Loterij Miljoenenspel

Miljoenenspel – the Million Game – is another exciting game that is offered by the NerderlandseLoterij and provides players with 3 separate opportunities of winning € 1 MILLION every week.

Firstly, a coloured ball is drawn which determines whether or not the main prize is doubled & also whether the € 1 MILLION is won.

The winning numbers are drawn only from numbers that have been sold so that guarantees there will be winners every week.

The Miljoenenspel number is made up of 6 digits – 5 numbers plus 1 letter & this is what you aim to match either in full or in part.

If your number matches all 5 drawn numbers plus the letter & the purple coloured ball has been drawn – your prize will be doubled.

If your number matches all 5 drawn numbers plus the letter & the green coloured ball has been drawn – you win the € 1 MILLION!

The Miljoenenspel is drawn once a week on Saturday at 9.30pm.

Nederlandse Loterij Lucky Day

Lucky Day is a daily game where you choose your own numbers and have the chance of winning up to € 450,000. Every single day there are an average of 8,600 lucky winners.

If you play Lucky Day with 10 numbers and if you have all 10 numbers correctly matched you will win the € 450,000 top prize.

The amount you win on Lucky Day is determined by the amount of numbers you choose to play with & the corresponding multiplier.

During a promotional period which is pre-determined, there will also be 10 cash prizes of € 250 which are guaranteed to be paid.

In addition to all the above games, the Netherlands Lottery also has many Krasloten – scratch cards – that you can play. These include Klaverteje 4, Spaarvarken, James Bond – No Time to Die, 7 Klapper, 24 Karaat Cash, FlappenKrassen, Miljoen & 100x Cash.
