NM Power Ball – Powerball NM
The New Mexico Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the New Mexico Powerball – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run by the Multi State Lottery Association – MUSL – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world having produced a record jackpot of US$ 1.58 BILLION in January 2016. This incredible sum is the biggest lottery jackpot ever won to date in the history of jackpot lotto games around the world and smashed the existing March 2012 record of US$ 656 MILLION produced by Mega Millions.
The very first Powerball draw took place on April 22nd 1992 with 16 USA Lottery companies – who were all members of the MUSL – taking part when the game changed its format and name from Lotto America which had started on February 13th 1988.
Tickets for the NM Powerball first went on sale back on October 20th 1996 when the NM Lottery became the 23rd member to join the MUSL – Multi State Lottery Association – who run & syndicate the game right across the USA.
NM Powerball – How it Works
The New Mexico Powerball works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 Million and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – increasing in size by at least US$ 10 Million each time – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the NM Powerball game from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 59 white balls are drawn followed by 1 number (the Powerball) from 35 red balls.
Draws for the Powerball New Mexico take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8.59pm MST (10.59pm EST).
There is also a Powerball prize multiplier facility available when playing that dramatically increases the size of a Powerball win and is called Powerball POWERPLAY.
POWERPLAY…
The Powerball POWERPLAY option is a fixed prize multiplier and will automatically increase the Powerball win to at least double the original amount – and is there to give players of the New Mexico Lottery Powerball a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the NM Powerball jackpot itself.
By using the Powerball POWER PLAY option – you are able to multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x or 4x – greatly increasing the amount you would walk away with.
A Powerball non-jackpot 2nd prize win of US$ 1 Million, for example, will be immediately doubled to US$ 2 Million when playing the New Mexico Power Ball using this Powerball POWERPLAY facility.
NM Powerball – How to Play
The aim when playing is to correctly select as many Powerball winning numbers as possible – and with 9 different ways in which you can win on the New Mexico Powerball Lottery – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are principally 4 ways you can play the NM Powerball…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 plus your 1 Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 35.
2. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 and use the Quick Pick option to let the computer choose your Power Ball (red ball) number for you from 1 to 35 – using a computer powered random number generator.
3. Use the Quick Pick option to let the computer pick your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 using a random number generator – and pick then your own Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 35.
4. Use the Quick Pick option available to let the computer choose both your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 and also your 1 Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 35 using its random number generator.

POWERPLAY…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your Powerball New Mexico winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Powerball POWER PLAY option when playing the NM Powerball.
If your chosen New Mexico Powerball numbers match the Powerball winning numbers on any of these prize levels – you immediately increase your winnings by either 2, 3 or 4 times – depending on what New Mexico Power Ball prize you have won.

NM Powerball – Record Jackpots
The largest ever powerball jackpot in New Mexico Lottery history has been the incredible US$ 206.9 Million prize won by 9 residents from Roswell when the New Mexico Lottery Powerball was drawn on September 27th 2008.
Second to this, the next largest New Mexico Powerball Lottery jackpot ever won was US$ 131 Million on November 29th 2000 by 14 players from Albuquerque – this was, in fact, the first New Mexico Lottery Powerball jackpot ever won.
The third biggest New Mexico Powerball jackpot ever won was on
August 10th 2005 when John San Cartier from Albuquerque scooped US$ 93.4 Million in New Mexico’s 3rd ever Powerball jackpot win.
The fourth largest New Mexico Powerball jackpot win occured back on May 23rd 2006 when Felipe Piña of Los Ojos claimed a massive US$ 62.8 Million in New Mexico’s 4th Powerball jackpot win.
New Mexico’s 2nd ever Powerball jackpot winner – Isabell Delgado from Las Cruces – won the 5th largest New Mexico Powerball lottery jackpot when she claimed the US$ 32 Million top prize from the February 20th 2002 Powerball draw.
NM Powerball – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a New Mexico Lottery Powerball jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – if you choose the annuity option – your Powerball NM winnings will be paid to you in 30 installments over a 29 year period.
For all prizes on the New Mexico Powerball – you will have up to 90 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Powerball ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the New Mexico Powerball is up to US$ 600 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any New Mexico Lottery retailers or by mail to the NM Lottery headquarters.
If you’ve had a win of between US$ 601 and US$ 99,999 on the New Mexico Powerball – you will need to claim your prize from the New Mexico Lottery Headquarters in Albuquerque.
If you won a New Mexico Powerball jackpot prize – you will need to claim your prize in person at the New Mexico Lottery Headquarters in Albuquerque
