1976
On September 3rd the Atlantic Lottery began with the formation of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation by the 4 provincial Canadian Atlantic Governments of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island & Newfoundland and Labrador. The very first Atlantic Lotto game was launched – “A-1” – which was a CAN$1 game sold in books of 5 tickets. Draws for the “A-1” took place every 2 weeks and were televised with members of the public being allowed to press the buttons to start the draw ball machines.
1982
In June the Atlantic Lottery Corporation became members of the ILC – the Inter Provincial Lottery Corporation – who administer and run the biggest Canadian Lotteries of all – the nation-wide games that are played right across Canada. The Atlantic Lotto Corp. began to offer the most popular Canadian Lotto game – the Lotto 649 – to people living in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador.
1983
In November the ALC introduced its first Instant Lottery game called “Tic Tac Toe” and in the same month began offering the countrywide Lotto 649 within the province of Prince Edward Island.
1988
In May the Atlantic Lottery Corp launched an additional game to the Pik 4 and Lotto 649 called “TAG”. This being an add-on game where only 1 winning number is drawn per game. For an additional CAN$ 1 the computer will pick a number for you using a random number generator which means you can win an extra amount in addition to the main Canadian Lottery jackpot game that you are playing – this extra TAG prize now is up to CAN$ 100,000 and you can play it 7 days a week.
June saw the launch of the first Atlantic Lotto CAN$ 2 Scratch ‘n’ Win game which was called Banco.
1989
In September it became possible for Atlantic Lotto players to purchase lottery tickets for up to 10 draws in advance on the Lotto 649 with the introduction of the Advance Play feature.
October saw the first Atlantic Choice draw being held.
1990
In March – “Breakopen” lottery tickets were included by Atlantic Lottery retailers in their portfolio of products.
December saw the launch of Video Lottery from the ALC in New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador
1991
Video Lottery was launched in Nova Scotia in May and then in Prince Edward Island in August.
In October – the Atlantic Lottery Corporation became the first lottery company in the world to launch an instant game based upon the Bingo concept when it launched the CAN$ 2 Scratch ‘n’ Win game – Bingo.
1992
From March – Atlantic Lotto players were allowed to claim any Atlantic Lottery prize up to CAN$ 10,000 at any branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia within the Atlantic region.
1994
Another big-game introduction into the Atlantic Lottery portfolio took place in May when the Lotto Super 7 – from the ILC – was introduced into the ALC range of games and began to be sold by Atlantic Lotto retailers.
Another new game was introduced in September when PRO-LINE sports game was launched in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
1995
A big development took place in June when the Atlantic Lottery Corporation website was launched.
1996
The PRO-LINE sports game was introduced in October to the provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador.
Crossword – a CAN$ 2 Scratch ‘n’ Win ticket game was launched by the ALC.
1999
The TAG game feature was introduced in the Atlantic region as an add-on game to the nationwide Lotto Super 7 in February giving players extra chances to win each draw.
2000
January saw the Atlantic Lottery network of lottery retailers begin to use computer based lottery terminals.
2001
In February a new game was launched by Atlantic Lottery – “Set For Life” – a Scratch ‘n’ Win game which offered a top prize of either CAN$ 1,000 per week for a period of 25 years or a lump sum of CAN$ 675,000.
October saw a game change with the Atlantic Choice now becoming the KENO Atlantic with draws taking place every day plus an increase in the number of prizes and ways in which you could win.
2002
The add-on option of TAG became available on the KENO Atlantic in May plus the option of players being able to purchase up to 10 TAG numbers per ticket.
August saw the launch of a second Sports game by Atlantic Lottery – OVER/UNDER.
A great new addition to the ALC portfolio occurred in November when the popular regional lottery – ATLANTIC 6/49 – was launched. The ATLANTIC 6/49 offered a top prize of CAN$ 1 Million with players getting 2 lots of numbers for just CAN$ 1.
Also in November Atlantic Lottery launched its own special rewards club completely free – eClub Rewards – offering special benefits and promotions.
2004In June the ATLANTIC 6/49 became the Atlantic 49 and could either be played as a game on its own or in conjunction with the Lotto 649.
Also in June – the ILC revamped the Lotto 649 – introducing a new prize category and offering even larger jackpot prizes.
PlaySphere was launched by Atlantic Lotto in August meaning that players could now buy lottery tickets online.
2005
Atlantic Lotto began offering interactive games through PlaySphere in April.
2006
A new game was launched by the Atlantic Lottery in February – Bucko – a CAN$1 draw game to take place every day with a CAN$ 20,000 top prize.
In August the third Sports lottery game was launched – GameDay Pick ‘em Pool.
2007
PlaySphere has new games added in May – iBingo and Pick ‘n’ Click.
In June – an add-on game for Lotto Super 7 was launched by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation – “Twist”. Up to CAN$ 107,000 could be won for an extra CAN$ 1 by adding “Twist” when playing the Super 7 Lotto.
2008
In April a new game called Salsa Bingo was launched whereby players would receive 2 player cards produced by the lottery terminal.
2009
The very last Lotto Super 7 draw is held on September 7th as the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation – ILC – ceases the game to make way for a new, even better nationwide Canadian Lottery.
The ILC introduce a brand new countrywide Canada Lottery game – called the LOTTO MAX on Friday September 18th with the first LOTTO MAX draw taking place on Friday September 25th. Jackpots would start at an amazing CAN$ 10 Million.
