Austrian Lottery

The Austrian Lottery - Osterreichische Lotterien - can trace its history back to July 2nd 1985 when the Toto Lottery Planning Company was formed with a view to introduce lottery games into Austria.

On June 11th 1986 legal concession was granted by the Austrian government to proceed with the games and the Austrian Lottery Toto Company was born.

The first Austrian Lottery games to be offered were the Letter Lottery, the Small Number Lottery, the Class Lottery and the SportToto.

On June 20th 1991, the Austrian Lottery Toto Company m.b.H. changed its name to the Austrian Lotteries Company m.b.H. and it is this company that runs all Austrian Lottery games today.

Games offered by the Austrian Lottery include Toto, Bingo, Joker, ToiToiToi, Rubbellos, Letter Lot, Class Lottery, WINWINWIN and the Austrian Lotteries flagship game that we are going to look at here – the Austrian Lotto

Austrian Lotto 6/45 – Overview

The Austrian Lotto 6/45 game was introduced in September 1986 by Osterreichische Lotterien, not long after the first Austrian Lottery games were launched earlier that year.

The Austrian Lotto 6/45 is a traditional draw-style, lotto jackpot game and is the flagship game offered by the Austrian Lotteries Company m.b.H.

Each time that the Austrian Lotto jackpot is not won, it will “roll over” and be added onto the jackpot for the next draw, making for some much larger jackpot figures to be won.

Draws for the Austrian Lotto take place twice per week on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and Sundays at 6.30pm CET.

We are very pleased to have reviewed the Austrian Lottery 6/45 and would highly recommend taking a good look at how it works below…

How It Works…

The Austria Lotto uses what’s called a matrix of 6/45 which means that when playing the Austria Lotto, you will need to select 6 numbers out of a pool of numbers from 1 to 45.

If you match all 6 of the main numbers drawn then you will be a winner of the first division prize – the Austrian Lotto jackpot.

In addition to the jackpot itself, there are 4 further ways in which you can win on the Austrian Lotto, which means that are a great number of prizes to be won twice per week for anyone who plays the Osterreichische Lotterien.

A “QuickPick” facility is available when playing the Austria Lotto very much the same as the “Lucky Dip” option that is used in the UK National Lottery or Europe’s EuroMillions or nearly all USA lottery games – which means that you can ask the lottery retailer or computer to randomly select all your Lotterien numbers for you.

So, playing the Austrian Lotto is simple…just select your own numbers or request them to be randomly generated for you by choosing the “QuickPick” option.

Who Can Play?

As with the majority of lottery games around the world, previously only citizens living in Austria were allowed to play in any of the Austrian Lottery games including the Austria Lotto - you used to have to purchase your Austria Lottery tickets from an authorized retailer based in Austria.

These days, though, this is not a problem as there are various online lottery ticket retailers such as TheLotter who are both authorized and genuine - you are able to select your Osterreichische Lotterien numbers online and purchase your tickets no matter where in the world you live.

This is great news of course if you live outside of Austria and want to play the Austrian Lotto and ensure your entry into the next draw or simply want to have the convenience and ease of being able to buy lottery tickets online.

Once you have entered into the Austria Lottery draw, you can then easily check the Lotterien results online to see how you have done and to find out if you have become one of the lucky Lotto winners.

You will need to be 18 years of age to be eligible to purchase a ticket for any of the Austrian Lottery games including the Lotto.

Information & Background

The Austrian Lotto offered players a second chance to win on the game each week from September 3rd 1997 when the Austrian Lotteries Company began a drawing on Wednesdays in addition to the traditional Sunday draw.

With effect from October 2nd 2004, Austrian Lotteries became part of the great EuroMillions lottery and began offering the richest European Lottery game within Austria.

What Are The Odds?

The odds of winning on the Austrian Lottery are very competitive when compared to many world lotteries and with 5 different ways in which you can win, this means there’s a lot of prizes to be won on the Osterreichische Lotterien twice every week.

The chances of winning an Austrian Lotto jackpot by matching the 6 main numbers are 1 in 8.14 million – for these odds you could be one of the Lotterien jackpot winners.

For a prize on the second level, the odds come in at 1 in 1.35 million for matching 5 of the main numbers plus the Additional Number.

The likelihood of winning a third level prize comes in at 1 in 34,808 for matching 5 of the main numbers and for a prize in the fourth level the odds are 1 in 733 for matching 4 of the main numbers.

For a prize on the fifth and final level, the odds of you winning are 1 in just 45 for matching only 3 of the main numbers.

How Are Jackpots Paid?

If you are the lucky winner of an Austrian Lottery jackpot, you will be paid your winnings in the form of a cash lump sum. All Austria Lottery prizes are paid out in cash.

Of course, if you are playing the Austria Lotto with a recognized lottery ticket sales company such as TheLotter, you will automatically be paid your prize money directly into your bank account as you play lottery online.

How Austria Benefits…

Proceeds from all Austrian Lottery games go towards funding numerous good causes and charities within Austria.

Austrian Lotteries take pride in supporting projects and institutions that benefit the country of Austria and its peoples.
