Powerball South Africa – Overview
The South African Powerball – Powerball South Africa – is the very latest game to have been introduced by the South Africa National Lottery and is a traditional draw-type, lottery jackpot game that uses a twin matrix.
The first lottery tickets for the Powerball South Africa were put on sale on Friday 16th October 2009 with the very first South African Powerball draw taking place on Friday 23rd October 2009.
The aim of introducing the South African Powerball was to offer a game to South Africa National Lottery players that produced much larger jackpots and many more lottery winners – the first draw starting off with a guaranteed R 30 Million jackpot.
The Powerball South Africa is drawn twice every week by the South Africa National Lottery – on Tuesdays and Fridays with draws taking place at 21.30 and being shown live on SABC2.
Each time that the South African Powerball jackpot is not won – it will rollover to the next draw until there is a winner – which can lead to some incredibly large jackpot amounts to be won.

Powerball South Africa – How it Works…
The South African Powerball game uses a double matrix similar to other Powerball games such as the huge USA Powerball, the Oz Powerball and the New Zealand Powerball.
The twin matrix of the Powerball South Africa is 5/45 and 1/20 which means that when playing the South African Powerball – you need to first choose 5 numbers from 1 to 45 followed by 1 number (the POWERball) from 1 to 20.
If you successfully match all of the 5 main numbers drawn plus the POWERball then you will be the winner of a South African Powerball jackpot prize.
Each of the two sets of numbers are drawn from two separate drawing machines using lottery balls that are precision made from solid rubber – first the 5 main numbers are drawn and then the 1 POWERball.
In addition to the South African Powerball jackpot, there are 7 other ways in which you can win on this South Africa Lottery game, meaning that there are a huge number of prizes to be won twice every week.
A Quick Pick option is available when playing the Powerball South Africa – similar to the Lucky Dip option available with the EuroMillions and UK Lotto or the Quick Pick/Easy Pick that most USA Lottery games have available. This allows you to select your own South African Powerball lottery numbers using a random number generator.
Playing the South African Powerball is therefore very simple – you just select your own 5 main numbers plus 1 POWERball numer or ask the computer to pick them using its random number generator by choosing the Quick Pick option.
The cost of each entry into the Powerball South Africa is R3.50 per line.
